Black Iron Ornamental Fence — Overland Park, KS
Black Iron Ornamental Fence — Overland Park, KS
We set approximately 160 linear feet of heavy-duty flat-top black iron ornamental fence on the rear and side lines. The 4-foot panels use heavier-gauge rails than standard residential aluminum — appropriate for a perimeter that will also serve as the landscaping boundary. Post spacing is consistent at 8 feet for even panel rhythm.
The lot had just been graded and the new home framing was still going up when this fence went in — the homeowner wanted the boundary established before landscaping started. Installing before sod goes down has advantages in Overland Park: no turf to dig through, easy string-line to grade, and the fence stakes out the final yard layout for the landscaper.
Built for what comes next
Overland Park's south neighborhoods sit in the heaviest clay-soil zone in Johnson County. We post-hole at 12 inches diameter and pour full-depth wet concrete with a bell-bottom at 36 inches — below the frost line — so the fence doesn't move when the soil freezes and swells. Our ornamental iron fencing standard is the same whether it's pre-graded dirt or finished yard.
Fence in, landscaping next
The iron fence will outlast the landscaping, the sod, and probably two or three lawn services by decades. The homeowner now has a clean line for the landscaper to work off of. When a driveway gate gets added, the end posts are already in the right position.
