Deck and Pergola Stain — Liberty, MO
Large-scale deck and pergola staining in Liberty
We pressure-washed the entire structure, allowed 48 hours of drying time, and applied semi-transparent penetrating stain throughout — deck boards by roller, pergola components by spray with back-brushing. Total treated surface was approximately 600 square feet. Hardware and furniture were moved and masked. Two full coats for complete penetration.
The Liberty deck-pergola combination was an ambitious staining project — several hundred square feet of cedar surface spanning deck boards, pergola posts, beams, and cross-rafters, all needing uniform color. Liberty sits in Clay County's northern KC metro zone, where summers are slightly cooler than the urban core but UV exposure is still significant for open outdoor structures.
Uniform color on mixed surfaces
Getting uniform color on a deck-pergola combination requires consistent application technique across different grain orientations and surface thicknesses. Pergola beam sides absorb differently than deck board tops. Our wood staining process uses the same two-coat spray-and-back-brush technique on every surface to eliminate the blotchy results that come from single-pass application.
A usable outdoor room again
The finished result transformed the space from weathered gray to a warm, cohesive outdoor living area. The homeowner entertains regularly and said the patio had been embarrassing to use before the stain. We set the re-coat at two years given the Liberty sun exposure. If any adjacent fence staining is due on the same schedule, we can batch it together.
