Tall Elevated Deck Stain — Oak Grove, MO
Two-level deck staining in Oak Grove
We treated both levels in sequence — lower deck first, then upper covered porch after lower surfaces dried. Cedar post columns spanning both levels were treated full-height. The covered porch ceiling boards, which tend to be overlooked, received full stain application. Stair stringers on the connecting staircase were given extra attention at the base where they contact the lower deck surface.
The Oak Grove property had a tall two-level deck — a covered upper porch off the second floor and an open lower deck below. Both levels needed full staining in the same visit. Eastern Jackson County's rural-suburban mix means larger lots and larger outdoor structures — two-level decks are common in Oak Grove's newer developments.
Two-level access and coverage
Covering all surfaces on a two-level structure requires staging — you can't stain the upper level and then walk across a wet lower deck to reach the stairs. Our exterior wood staining crew plans the access sequence before starting so no surface is missed and no wet surfaces are compromised. Under-porch surfaces on the upper level get full coverage even though they're protected — UV and moisture still reach them.
Both levels finished
The tall deck looks cohesive now that both levels carry the same stain tone. The covered porch ceiling is the most dramatic change — it went from gray to warm cedar and makes the space feel intentional rather than exposed. Re-coat is set at two years for both levels simultaneously. Future fence staining at this property can be timed to the same service window.
