Fence Replacement Before and After — Lenexa, KS
Full fence replacement in Lenexa
We removed the entire old fence, pulled the rotted posts and old concrete footings, graded the fence line, and installed 190 linear feet of 6-foot cedar privacy fence with new green pressure-treated posts set to 36 inches in fresh concrete. The new design uses a top cap board to give the fence a clean finished edge. Dark-painted fence posts visible on the neighbor's side create a deliberate contrast with the cedar boards.
The Lenexa homeowner's existing cedar fence was 15 years old and had been losing posts since the last winter — the right call was full replacement rather than patching an installation that was past its service life. Lenexa's northern neighborhoods have a wave of fences installed in the early 2010s that are hitting end-of-life now. Full replacement is often more economical than patching multiple sections on an aging install.
When repair doesn't make sense
Lenexa's freeze-thaw cycles are hard on post concrete over 15-plus years — the concrete can crack and separate from the post, eliminating the anchor effect. When more than 30-40 percent of a fence's posts are compromised, our fence replacement recommendation is based on per-foot cost comparison: patching isolated sections vs full replacement. On this project, patching would have cost more over 5 years than full replacement.
New fence standing straight
The contrast between the top (old) and bottom (new) photos in this before-after is significant. The new fence is plumb, the post spacing is consistent, and the top cap gives it a profile the old fence never had. We recommended the first stain coat at 30 days post-install. A professional fence stain at that point will lock in the look for years.
