Iron Ornamental Fence — Wooded Lot, Lee's Summit, MO
Iron Ornamental Fence — Lee's Summit, MO
We installed approximately 200 linear feet of 4-foot black iron ornamental fence through wooded terrain along the rear and side property lines. Post placement was adjusted per root avoidance at each location, with post depth varying between 36-42 inches depending on root depth found at augering. The fence follows the grade rather than being leveled, giving it a natural feel appropriate to the wooded setting.
The Lee's Summit property had a heavily wooded perimeter that needed a boundary fence without blocking the tree canopy views or requiring major trenching through root systems. Wooded lots in eastern Jackson County require more planning for fence installation — tree roots, uneven grades, and soil composition changes between soil and wooded ground all affect post placement.
Root avoidance and post depth in wooded KC lots
Lee's Summit's wooded residential lots present the same root-conflict challenge as wooded parcels anywhere in the KC metro. Our ornamental iron fencing installations on wooded lots use a post-placement scouting pass before digging — we probe with a soil rod to find root mass and adjust accordingly. On iron fences, the open panel design is actually advantageous in wooded settings because it doesn't block the visual depth of the trees.
Boundary through the trees
The iron fence reads as a property line through the woods without dominating the natural setting. The powder-coat black disappears in the wooded background. Gate clearance was confirmed on both leaf-up and leaf-down sight lines. For any adjacent walk gate or drive gate additions, the post spacing was left in the right position.
