Cedar Privacy Fence with Walk Gate — Mission, KS
Cedar Privacy Fence and Walk Gate — Mission, KS
We extended an existing fence line about 40 feet along the side yard and installed a 48-inch cedar walk gate with a spring-loaded self-closing hinge set and drop-rod latch. The gate frame uses a diagonal cross-brace to prevent sag. Boards match the existing fence style and cedar grade.
This Mission homeowner needed to close the side yard gap between the garage and the back fence line — a standard Johnson County setup where the gate becomes a daily-use entry point. The lot is typical of Mission's established neighborhoods: a narrow side yard corridor where fence panels need to work around utility access and the existing concrete pad.
Self-closing gate hardware matters in KC
Mission sees the same high-wind days as the rest of Johnson County — a gate without a self-closer eventually gets left open. Spring-loaded hinges on our walk gate installs are adjusted to close firmly without slamming. Drop-rod latches on wood gates are more durable than hook-and-eye on a daily-use entry. Posts for gate frames go 42 inches deep to handle the added torque of a swinging gate vs a stationary fence panel.
Practical daily entry point
The homeowner uses this gate every day — trash cans, pets, yard work. The hardware is rated for the weight and the hinge adjustment holds the close force without slamming in wind. This fence is due for its first stain coat next spring; we'll follow our standard cedar staining schedule when it's time.
